The Documentation Centre on the Bombing of Gernika is a specialised public service, which makes available to all interested persons its documentary collection consisting of archival material, books, documents, magazines and audiovisual material on the bombing of Gernika (26/04/1937. Spanish Civil War).

Research
The Gernika Bombing Documentation Centre continues its research work in archives, newspaper libraries, film libraries and other information centres, compiling existing information worldwide on the bombing of Gernika and the Spanish Civil War.

The Southworth collection
These were acquired by Gernika-Lumo Town Hall and added to the Documentation Centre. They belonged to the famous historian and bibliophile Herbert R. Southworth, and consist of more than 3.000 books, newspapers, documentation and basic archives.
Mission and objectives

The mission of the Documentation Centre (CDBG) is to collate, preserve, investigate and exhibit all existing documentation on the bombing of Gernika and the history of Gernika-Lumo within the context of the Spanish Civil War and the repercussions on exile, as a reference for research in this area.
The main aims of the CDBG are:
- Continue with the line of research.
- To be a primary source of research for any researcher interested in the subject.
- To maintain the bibliographic collections and documents specialising in the bombing of Gernika, the Civil War and the exile.
- Organising, cataloguing, computerising and digitising documentation.
- Disseminate CDBG services (website, brochures…).
- Organise and promote special events (symposiums, courses, conferences…).
