The bombing of Gernika
The visit covers this historical event that represented a milestone in both the Spanish Civil War and world history.
The bombing of Gernika
The necessary materials are provided by the Museum.
12 – 16 years old
Between 10 and 20 people
1 hour
60 € per group.
Basque, Spanish, French and English.
Pupils will need to have a minimum knowledge of the Spanish Civil War.
Objectives
– To feel the joy of one’s own creative work
– Feeling the pain caused by violence
– To try to find an appropriate way out of conflicts.
– To recognise that there are different ways of resolving conflicts.
1st exercise: Introduction
There will be a brief introduction about what happened in Gernika on 26 April 1937.
2nd exercise: Designing a city
– Divide the students into groups and assign each group a character.
– Each group will build a house, aeroplanes or a photographic machine.
– Place all the houses and create the city.
3rd exercise: Destroy the city
The planes will destroy the city and the feelings that have arisen will be discussed.
4th exercise: History
A brief explanation will be given of what happened in Guernica in 1937.
