Anti-aircraft shelters: witnesses of the bombing of April 26th 1937
The Gernika Peace Museum launches the ”Memoritour Gernika” program, consisting of several guided tours in which the memorial, symbolic, historical and cultural heritage of the town is shown.
Did you know that several of the air-raid shelters that were used during the Spanish civil war are still preserved in Gernika?
We will know how and why these shelters were built and we will experience the events that happened on April 26, 1937.
We will start in the Plaza de los Fueros and the Pasileku, the place where the market was held at that time, and we will end up in the industrial zone of Gernika, a very important and strategic place where not a single bomb fell. Come and meet in person this heritage linked to our memory that helps us understand our past.
Please arrive at the museum reception at least 10 minutes before your tour begins.
The tour starts outside the Gernika Peace Museum and includes visits to landmarks such as the disappeared shelter in Andra Mari street, the Pasileku and its shelters, Astra and Talleres de Guernica.
From 27 January to 30 June 2026 and from 1 September to 29 December 2026.
10.15 am, 11.30 am y 12.45 pm
