BIBLIOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION

The Civil War in the press

2022-07-01 - 2022-12-29

Presentation

The Documentation Centre on the Bombing of Gernika, as part of its cultural activities and within the framework of the temporary exhibitions of the Gernika Peace Museum, organises bibliographic exhibitions with the aim of disseminating its documentary collections.

The Spanish Civil War aroused great international interest and the media from all over the world sent their correspondents to cover the conflict. Both sides were aware of the importance of controlling information and the press became a means of propaganda in the service of their ideals.

The bombing of Gernika is a clear example of this, as it had a great effect on international public opinion, but its dissemination was the subject of unequal treatment in the chronicles of the correspondents of the different news media.

This exhibition presents a selection of the books we have considered most relevant and which reflect the work of the press, both written and graphic, during the war and its influence on world public opinion.

All the documents on display are kept in the archives of the museum and will be available for consultation by anyone who is interested.
