War and espionage
As part of its cultural activities, the Documentation Centre on the Bombing of Gernika organises bibliographic exhibitions to disseminate its collection of books.
On this occasion, we are presenting a selection of books on the role of espionage in wars.
Drawing on the famous phrase by the English philosopher Francis Bacon, ‘Knowledge is power’, it can be said that knowledge and access to reliable information have, throughout history, been one of the most valuable weapons in any armed conflict. Gathering and analysing information enables one to stay one step ahead of the adversary and make more effective decisions to achieve military and political objectives. Thus, intelligence services become a key factor in determining the course of events. And to intercept the adversary’s communications, espionage, carried out by undercover agents, is a fundamental tool.
