S.T.O.P. Surviving in the Palestinian Occupied Territories
After 40 years of conflict, the population of the occupied Palestinian territories have been tested to the limit. More than half of them live in poverty, and 1.2 million people are dependent on international aid. Thousands of Palestinians have to deal on a daily basis with over 500 security controls, a 400 km wall which continues to grow and roads reserved exclusively for Israeli vehicles.
The prevailing violence and insecurity are severely deteriorating the physical and mental health of the population, a deterioration which is aggravated by the closure of the Gaza Strip and restrictions on movement in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
In the exhibition S.T.O.P. Surviving in the Palestinian Occupied Territories Médecins du Monde and photographer Giovanni Marrozzini, winner of the 11th Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award, document the effects of the conflict through the statements of local inhabitants. Their stories reveal to us the region where the population is terrified by checkpoints, searches and bombings, but also by a lack of hope and feeling that they have no future.
