The exhibition Correspondents in the Spanish Civil War is a bibliographic exhibition that consists on a selection of books about this subject.

The Civil War aroused great international interest and media from all over the world sent their correspondents to cover the conflict. Both parties were aware of the importance of the control of information and the press became a means of propaganda for their ideals.

The bombing of Gernika is a clear example of this as it had a great effect on international opinion but broadcast the same was subject to unequal treatment in the correspondents’ reports from different countries.

This exhibition presents some of the books that we considered most relevant and reflect the work of those correspondents both written and print media. From George L. Steer who spread the news to international fascist barbarism in Gernika to Robert Capa, the most famous photojournalist in war through other no less important as Ernest Hemingway, George Orwell and Gerda Taro.

These men and women were able to influence the opinions of his readers and face serious risks performed their mission with great courage and talent.

In addition to these books original chronicles Times and The New York Times April 28, 1937 George L. Steer wrote about the bombing of Gernika was exhibited.

This bibliographic exhibition will remain on the second floor of the Museum of Gernika Peace from 1 April to 14 September 2014.

The books presented here can be consulted by all those interested in the Documentation Centre on the Bombing of Gernika (Gernika Peace Museum Foundation).
