Meeting between participants of Kids’ Guernica
In order to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Gernika, the Gernika Peace Museum, the Peace Research Center Gernika Gogoratuz and the Culture House of Gernika, have organized with the sponsorship of the City council of Gernika-Lumo and the Foundation 2012 Fundazioa, the International Art Project for Peace, Kids’ Guernica.
The project, originated in 1995 with the occasion of an exchange of one canvas to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the atomic bomb of Hiroshima. The exhibition we have this year in Gernika, contains 22 paintings made by children from all around the world, plus 9 works made in Gernika. The exhibition closes on october 14th.
En Octobre 5th, Friday, the meeting between participants of Kids’ Guernica took place from 10:00h to 12:00h.

Nine murals were created as part of this project. Seven schools participated (Allende, Institutua, Barrutia, Montorre-Arteaga, San Fidel, Seber Altube and Barrutialde), along with a group from the Ahize-AEK association and another group from the Gernika Peace Museum. In total, more than 330 children took part.
The three institutions that organised the exhibition will be represented at the ceremony, which will take place at Elai Alai: the director of the Gernika Peace Museum, Iratxe Momoitio; the director of the Gernika Cultural Centre, Ricardo Abaunza; and the director of Gernika Gogoratuz, Maria Oianguren.
The young artists will explain their creations and each school will receive a certificate confirming their participation in the project. We will also have the opportunity to hear from Toshifumi Abe, one of the founders of Kids’ Guernica International.
To conclude, prizes will be awarded:
1-A trip to Port Aventura for a family (courtesy of Auka Bidaiak) for the winner of the prize among those who submitted the Kids’ Guernica album-brochure.
2-A weekend in a rural guesthouse (courtesy of Urdaibai Bidaiak) for the winner of the prize among all participants in the creation of the murals.
