89th anniversary of the bombing of Gernika.
Under the motto “Remembering the bombing of Gernika” we present to you the program of the 89th anniversary of the bombing of the Gernika Peace Museum for this 2026.
On 26 April 1937, 89 years ago now, the history of a town (Gernika-Lumo) and the lives of many people were changed completely and forever.
Today, on 26 April 2026, the fact that several towns and cities around the world are enduring such harsh conditions in Ukraine, Palestine, Iran, etc., gives us the feeling that we have learned little from these episodes in history. The work of the Gernika Peace Museum is not only to preserve memory and history, but also to champion peace and human rights.
No more Gernikas! No more wars! No more bombings!
The following programme outlines the initiatives carried out by the Gernika Peace Museum throughout the year and on this anniversary, 89 years on.
26 April, Sunday
- Free admission to the museum (10:00-19:00)
- Gernika 2026 Awards (12:00) at the Lizeo antzokia
