Gernika Awards for Peace and Reconciliation 2026
The “Global Sumud Humanitarian Flotilla” and “the Peace Agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan” have been recognized with the “2026 Gernika Award for Peace and Reconciliation” for promoting dialogue, remembrance and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The “Global Sumud Humanitarian Flotilla” and “the Peace Agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan” have been recognized with the “2026 Gernika Award for Peace and Reconciliation” for promoting dialogue, remembrance and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The award recognises, firstly, the Global Sumud Flotilla’s international humanitarian initiative in support of the people of Gaza. Secondly, the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a recognition of the political efforts towards negotiation by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The jury is made up of representatives from Gernika-Lumo Town Council, the German city of Pforzheim, the Gernika Gogoratuz Foundation, the House of Culture and the Gernika Peace Museum.
The awards will be presented by Gernika-Lumo Town Council on 26 April, as part of the programme of events commemorating the 89th anniversary of the town’s bombing.
