The Gernika Peace Museum has developed its own educational resources, based on the museum’s permanent exhibition, which addresses the theme of peace from different perspectives.

Remarks

Overall objective

  • To understand the concepts of peace, reconciliation and human rights through the permanent exhibition at the Gernika Peace Museum, encouraging critical reflection on coexistence, justice and individual and collective commitment to building a culture of peace.

Specific objectives

  • To explore the different meanings of peace, understanding that it goes beyond the absence of violence and involves justice, respect and coexistence.
  • To reflect on the role of human rights as the foundation for building peaceful, inclusive and democratic societies..
  • To analyse reconciliation as a process based on dialogue, recognition of others and the restoration of human relationships.
  • To identify attitudes, values and behaviours that foster peaceful coexistence at both a personal and social level.
  • To develop critical thinking through the analysis of the messages, resources and experiences presented in the exhibition.
  • To foster empathy, respect for diversity and active listening as tools for the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
  • To relate the concepts explored in the museum to everyday situations and current challenges, identifying ways to contribute to a more respectful and just society.
  • To recognise individual and collective responsibility in promoting a culture of peace and defending human rights.
Steps

1st exercise

Four groups will be formed to explore the concept of peace.

2nd exercise

Each group will work on and examine their assigned topic in depth.

3rd exercise

A brief presentation on the topic covered will be given to the members of the other groups.

4th exercise
