4th edition of the Artivist Sailing. International Forum of Arpilleras

The 2nd International Forum of Arpilleras will be held from 26 to 28 February 2016 in Gernika and Donostia.

* Arpilleras are three dimensional Latin American textiles which originated in Chile. The arpillera (strong burlap made of flour or potato sacks) gives name to this type of craft art.

16.00-19.00 Arpilleras master class for artists, facilitated by Ana Zlatkes (Argentina) and Roberta Bacic.

• Ana Zlatkes is an Argentinean textile artist, president of CAAT (Argentinean Centre of Textile Art) and an arpillerista since she encountered them in 2009. Textile pieces by Zlatkes are part of the Argentinean heritage, Conflict Textiles collection and private collectors from different parts of the world. She has curated 2 arpilleras exhibitions in Argentina and is part of the Z-Z collective.

16.45-19.00 Hands on workshop aimed at the creation of a collective arpillera that will start being made in Donostia and will continue in Gernika. The workshop is open to all the participants of the FORUM and open to the public that is potentially interested in the topic.

The workshop will be facilitated and coordinated by Alex Carrascosa, Roberta Bacic and Pamela Luque, in collaboration with women and men participating in the Peace Museum’s arpillera workshop, Ateneu Sant Roc from Badalona and Casal de Barri Congrés-Indians from Barcelona.
