2012-06-28 - 2012-10-14

Presentation

In order to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Gernika, the Gernika Peace Museum, the Peace Research Center Gernika Gogoratuz and the Culture House of Gernika, have organized with the sponsorship of the City Council of Gernika-Lumo and the Foundation 2012 Fundazioa, the International Art Project for Peace, ‘Kids’ Guernica’.

‘Kids’ Guernica’ is an international project created by Toshifumi Abe (Japan), Tadashi Yasuda (Japan), Kaoru Mizuguchi (Japan) and Tom Anderson (USA) — which originated in 1995– with the occasion of an exchange of a canvas to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the bomb attack on Hiroshima. It is a major mural exhibition painted by children in different parts of the world on canvas measuring 3.50 x 7.80 m, referring to Picasso’s ‘Guernica’.

This major exhibition in Gernika-Lumo, and some other places in the Basque Country, has been possible thanks to the invaluable help and collaboration of Boris Tissot (France) and Gabriel Felder (Italy) both members of the International Committee of Kids Guernica, currently represented by Mr Takuya Kaneda (Web Kids’ Guernica) and thanks to the cooperation of schools, and numerous entities.
